The leaves are changing, the temps are dropping, it’s almost ski season! Get your season off to the right start with an Avalanche Skills Training Course Nov. 20-21 in the Bow Valley. We’ll meet Friday in Banff for a classroom day, and Saturday somewhere in the Lake Louise/Icefields Parkway area for a field day.
The AST Level 1 follows a curriculum developed by Avalanche Canada, a world leader in avalanche safety and training. Upon completion of this course, you will receive a certificate from Avalanche Canada. These courses are pre-requisites for the Canadian Avalanche Association Industry training programs.
This 2 day course is an introduction to avalanche safety. At the end of the course you will have a basic understanding of the following concepts.

- Formation and Nature of Avalanches
- Companion Rescue
- Understanding avalanche bulletins
- Safe travel
- Trip planning
- Avaluator
